Description

A flavorful and easy Chinese Pepper Steak recipe that combines tender slices of beef with colorful bell peppers, onions, and a savory sauce. Perfect for a quick and satisfying weeknight meal.

Ingredients

For the Beef:

  • 1 ¼ lbs flank or sirloin steak, thinly sliced

For the Vegetables:

  • 1/2 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 yellow bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 large onion, thick slices
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, optional
  • 23 tbsp vegetable oil

Marinade:

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Sauce Mix:

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce, optional
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp vinegar, apple cider
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Add the sliced beef, mix well, and let it marinate for 15-30 minutes.
  2. Sear the Beef: Heat vegetable oil in a pan or wok. Sear the marinated beef in batches until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Sauté Vegetables: In the same pan, sauté garlic, ginger, onions, and bell peppers until tender-crisp, about 4-5 minutes.
  4. Combine: Return the beef to the pan. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, cornstarch, and water. Pour over the beef and vegetables.
  5. Thicken Sauce: Cook until the sauce thickens and coats the ingredients, approximately 1-2 minutes.
  6. Serve: Enjoy the Chinese Pepper Steak hot over rice.

Notes

  • Add more vegetables like broccoli or mushrooms for extra flavor and nutrients.
  • Adjust the sauce ingredients to suit your taste preferences, such as adding more or less sugar for sweetness.
