Ingredients
For the Cookies:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp orange zest
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tbsp fresh orange juice
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp orange extract
- ½ cup sour cream
For the Frosting:
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp orange extract
- 2 tbsp fresh orange juice
- 1–2 tbsp heavy cream (as needed)
- Orange food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets. Whisk together flour, baking powder, soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg, orange zest, juice, vanilla, and orange extract. Mix well.
- Stir in sour cream until smooth. Gradually add dry ingredients.
- Scoop dough balls onto the baking sheet.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden. Cool completely.
- For frosting: Beat butter, add powdered sugar, then flavorings and juice. Adjust consistency with cream, add food coloring (optional). Frost cookies and garnish with orange zest. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
- For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes.
- Let cookies cool fully before frosting.
- Freshly zested orange gives the best flavor.
- Add white chocolate chips for variation.
