Ingredients

For the Chicken:

  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1” strips

For the Broccoli:

  • 2 cups broccoli florets

For the Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 3 Tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1/4 teaspoon cornstarch or xanthan gum, optional
  • 1 Tablespoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Heat the Oils: Heat the sesame oil and olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Cook Chicken: Add the chicken strips and cook for about 5 minutes until fully cooked. Remove from the pan and keep warm.
  3. Cook Broccoli: Add the broccoli to the skillet, cover, and steam until cooked to your liking.
  4. Prepare Sauce: In a small bowl, combine chicken broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger paste. Add cornstarch if desired for a thicker sauce.
  5. Combine Ingredients: Return cooked chicken to the skillet with broccoli. Pour the sauce over and stir to coat.
  6. Simmer: Reduce heat to low and simmer for a few minutes to blend flavors.
  7. Serve: Sprinkle with sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

  • If using frozen broccoli, steam it separately before adding to the cooked chicken.
  • Use brown sugar or a sugar substitute of your choice.
  • To thicken the sauce, incorporate xanthan gum or cornstarch before adding to the dish.
  • Leftovers can be stored covered in the fridge for up to 2 days.
