Description
These Soft and Fluffy Donut Twists are a delightful treat that are perfect for any time of day. They are light, airy, and coated in a sweet sugary finish that will have you coming back for more.
Ingredients
Dough:
- 3 ¼ cups all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)
- 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
- ½ cup warm milk
- ¼ cup warm water
- ⅓ cup sugar
- 1 large egg, room temp
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- ½ tsp salt
- Oil, for frying
Coating:
- ½ cup sugar (or cinnamon sugar)
- 2 tbsp melted butter (optional, for brushing before coating)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a small bowl, combine warm milk, warm water, yeast, and 1 tbsp sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. In a large bowl, mix flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add yeast mixture, egg, and butter. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1 ½ hours, until doubled.
- Shape and Rise: Punch down dough and divide into 10–12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope (~8–10 inches long). Twist two ropes together, pinch ends to seal (or fold one rope in half and twist). Place on a lined tray, cover lightly, and let rise for 30–40 minutes until puffy.
- Fry:
- Heat oil to 325–340°F (165–170°C).
- Fry donut twists in batches, 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels.
- Coat and Serve: While warm, brush with melted butter (optional) and roll in sugar or cinnamon sugar.
Notes
- For best results, ensure the oil is at the correct temperature before frying.
- These donut twists are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a day.
